Imprinted concrete
Imprinted concrete driveways on the Wirral
A single reinforced slab, coloured and patterned to read as paving. Strong and seamless, with two real trade offs worth knowing before you buy.
- Dig depth and sub base stated in writing
- Edge restraint haunched, not just laid
- Drainage designed, not left to the border
Imprinted concrete driveways
What it is, and the two things nobody mentions
Imprinted concrete is a reinforced concrete slab poured in one piece, coloured through and on the surface, then stamped with patterned mats while it is still workable so it reads as block paving, stone or cobbles. Done well it is seamless, very strong and completely weed free, and on a large area it is often cheaper than the paving it imitates.
The first trade off is repairs. It is a single slab, so there is no such thing as lifting one block. A crack, a trench for a new service, or damage from a dropped kerb being formed later can only be patched, and a patch in a coloured, patterned surface will be visible however carefully it is done. Anyone telling you otherwise has not done one.
The second is sealing. The colour and the surface are protected by a sealer that wears off and needs reapplying periodically, and an unsealed imprinted drive fades and picks up stains. That is a genuine ongoing cost and it is the part most often left out of the sales pitch. Resealing is maintenance work rather than installation, and we would point you at wirralexteriorcleaning.com for the cleaning that has to happen first. Often asked about alongside gravel driveways, patios and paths and driveway repairs.
Get a price for the concreteThere are no individual units to lift. Patches in a coloured patterned surface are visible, and that is worth knowing before you choose it.
The sealer wears and needs redoing periodically. Factor it in as a real cost rather than a one off.
A slab needs reinforcement and movement joints designed into it, or it cracks where it was always going to.
Done across Birkenhead, Wallasey, Bebington, and everywhere else on the peninsula. Cleaning, sealing and re-sanding an existing drive is a different trade: that goes to Wirral Exterior Cleaning.

Frequently asked questions
Imprinted concrete driveways: the questions people ask
The ones that come up most. If yours is not here, ring and ask.
Can imprinted concrete be repaired?
It can be patched, and the patch will be visible. There are no individual units to lift and relay, so matching a cured, coloured, patterned surface is not realistically achievable. If an invisible repair matters, block paving is the better choice.
How often does it need resealing?
Periodically, and the interval depends on traffic and which way it faces more than on a number anybody can quote you up front. It is a real ongoing cost and it is the thing most often missing from a comparison against block paving.
Will it crack?
Concrete moves, which is why movement joints are designed into the slab. Properly reinforced and jointed, cracking is controlled. Without those it cracks wherever the stress concentrates, usually at a corner or a narrow section.
Is it cheaper than block paving?
On a large area it often is, which is its main attraction. The comparison should include the resealing over the life of it, at which point the gap narrows.

Tell us the area and whether anything may be dug later
If a service run or a dropped kerb might come later, that changes the recommendation, and it is worth saying now.
About Wirral Driveways
How the work is actually organised
Wirral Driveways takes the job as main contractor and puts the labour and the plant on it. One person quotes it, one person is answerable for it, and you are not chasing a groundworker and a paviour separately to find out who is coming.
What you get is a written scope with the build up stated, a date, and somebody whose problem it is if the date moves.
We install. We do not clean
This matters enough to say on its own page. Cleaning, sealing and re-sanding an existing driveway is a genuine trade and it is not this one. It needs different equipment, different materials and a different way of pricing.
So we do not offer it, we do not quote for it, and when you ask we will point you at wirralexteriorcleaning.com, which does it properly. Saying yes to work we are not set up for would be the easy answer and the wrong one.
What else we will tell you we are not
Structural retaining walls above a modest height, anything involving a highway other than a straightforward vehicle crossing, and tree surgery on a protected tree are all other people's work. All three come up on driveway jobs and all three are worth bringing the right person in for.
No photographs of our work, and why the site says so
There are no job photographs on this site. The slots are placeholders and they are labelled as placeholders. Nothing here is a stock picture presented as a job and nothing is borrowed from another company.
Real ones go in as jobs are finished and customers are happy for us to use them. The same goes for anything that looks like a customer quote: there is a section built and ready, switched off, until there are real ones with permission attached.
